Best In Show -
The Morrell Award
The award for Best in Show is presented to the team whose final product reflects the lessons taught throughout the Shoot Off Workshop weekend. This piece should reflect principles and standards the Shoot Off hopes to see from the members of the military and civil service in their everyday work.
The Best in Show Award is named for Chief Master Sergeant Doug Morrell, a veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War. Morrell embodied not just the spirit of the visual production excellence, he held his peers and his work to the same standard of excellence.
The 2023 MORRELL Award for Best In Show winners will be receiving a 1 year subscription to the Creative Cloud sponsored by Adobe.
Editing -
The Capra Award
This award goes to the team whose finished product best demonstrates the editing standards taught at the Shoot Off Video Workshop. While the workshop is founded to teach the fundamentals of storytelling, the Capra award also acknowledges extraordinary effort in post-production.
The award for editing excellence is named for Frank Capra, who answered the call to serve his country in both World Wars, but took his filmmaking skills to the Second World War, creating more than a dozen films as an Army officer, including the Academy Award-winning Why We Fight series.
The CAPRA Award for Best In Editing winners were awarded gear sponsored by Ikan.
Cinematography -
The Hug-Medina Award
The Hug-Medina Award is the award given to the team whose final product shows the fundamental production skills taught over the Shoot Off Video Workshop weekend. Though the Shoot Off teaches and promotes the fundamentals of media production, the Hug-Media Award takes into consideration exceptional attempts to integrate more advanced techniques.
The Hug-Medina Award is named for Cpl. Sara Medina and Lance Cpl. Jacob Hug, Combat Camera Marines killed in a helicopter crash while documenting in relief efforts in the aftermath of the 2015 Nepal Earthquake. The Shoot Off Video Workshop changed the name of the Award for Best Cinematography to honor their memory – a reminder that our work is creative and passionate but still dangerous.
The HUG-MEDINA Award for Best In Cinematography winners were awarded new EOS R8 DSLR’s sponsored by Canon.
